EVERYONE SHUT UP, Maison Margiela JUST RELEASED THEIR ARCHIVES ONLINE.

By

One of the best moments for fashion in a while just happened, and I am HERE FOR IT.

Let’s discuss.

So, like the title states, Maison Margiela (known widely for their stunning Replica perfumes, among other iconic things) just released an incredible project on Dropbox. For the first time ever they’re opening access to their archives, in coordination with a series of upcoming shows to explore, as they put it, “four house codes that will be explored across exhibitions and experiences in China this April.”

  1. I wish it was partially in Japan so that I could attempt to finagle an invite
  2. I AM OBSESSED. I love the concept of fashion as art, and archival research of a brand’s history is pretty much catnip to me.

So naturally, I dropped everything to head over to their /folders page (linked here) and got to searching. I highly recommend you check it out…and keep doing so, because they’re adding new stuff all of the time. However, if you’d like a little overview/are willing to indulge MY obsession, here are some of my favorites so far.

The I-Spy Dress*:

HELLO???? I love creative chaos, and this certainly paints a picture. It reminds me of those I-Spy books from when I was growing up in the best way. This dress has it all, style, personality, impeccable tailoring, AND MATCHING HEADWEAR. Truthfully, I must admit I am obsessed, even if it does look like the inside of my junk drawer (perhaps because of that, if I’m being honest.)

The Ethereal Face:

Girl don’t even talk to me if you don’t want to hear about this. This image is the inspiration behind this post. The wind beneath my wings. The… I MEAN JUST LOOK it is so iconic. I made Ryan (my boyfriend) stop playing Magic The Gathering online just to come hear me gush about the technical artistry here. And how much I hate that hat/the hairdo but, that’s beside the point. This couture piece is crafted from (I think?) tulle (or crinoline??), a notoriously difficult material to work with, and to drape, shape, and manipulate it into such an impeccable representation of humanity is simply astounding. I will be talking about it for the rest of my days.

*none of these are official titles, they are simply how I refer to the pieces in my head
