Writing Prompt 6: I AM TERRIFIED.

What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months?

Have you ever traveled to a place where you don’t know the language? I certainly have, but never before have I been to a place where I don’t even recognize the script. In the next few months, I’ll be going to Japan, and though this is incredibly exciting… I am terrified.

I’ll be visiting with my partner Ryan as he competes in a competitive card game event (Flesh and Blood, check it out!) This of course means 1. he’s open to traveling, which, if you knew Ryan would be shocking… and 2. I will be by myself for a significant portion of the trip. That’s not new, I did this in London last year (which I wrote about for ILoveDooney, but will be expanding upon here later) and it was incredible. It’s just…

I studied abroad in London. I lived (and worked!) there for three and a half life-changing months, and I would go back in a heartbeat. So, I sort of don’t think it counts? It felt like going home, whereas this is entirely new. I don’t speak or read the language, I will be all by mysellllllllf and honestly I am not sure about the public transportation yet? Research seems to suggest it will be good, though again, I do not speak Japanese so, we shall see.

My main goals in Japan will be to eat, shop, and not die. I love the food there, and I have heard incredible things, so that’s a major win, and that 7-11 is going to hate to see me coming for sure. I will not be clothes shopping because, as a plus size woman, shopping at wildly named plus stores may send me into a crash out I will never recover from BUT I will be shopping the hell out of luxury.

Pre-loved luxury that is! I am a huge proponent of a vintage find. I often window-shop on sites like Poshmark, or Thredup (ps. it’s so easy to sell clothes on there???? I was shocked) for clothes and accessories at steal-worthy prices, but I know that the really good stuff is in Japan. There are some iconic stores on ebay from Japan who source the best vintage bags and in fact, I know that’s where a lot of luxury resellers in the US source from, so I am literally VIBRATING WITH EXCITEMENT at the thought of shopping there. I’m hoping to score some deals, but mostly I’ll be on the lookout for a new wallet, cause this Dooney one isn’t cutting it.

Stay tuned for deets on those adventures. I’m scared-ish, but looking forward to it, because those are often the best opportunities to grow as a person. At least, I hope.

As always, I may make a commission on linked products. It’s unlikely, but still.
