Well, I must admit that upon reading this question, I laughed out loud. As you know, I have ADHD. Or at least, you should know, because it’s a bit of the point of this entire website. Anyway, oftentimes people with the disorder deal with this thing called Hyperfocus. It’s a bit of a blessing and a curse. Per ADDITUDE magazine, hyperfocus is “an intense fixation on an interest or activity for an extended period of time.” So that is to say… yes.
Over the past (almost, three days left!) 29 years, I have had MANY hobbies, and they haven’t all stuck. A prime example of this is…nail art. I got really into nail polish one summer, around 10th grade and into the school year thanks to my friend Jenny DeLuca. We’d discuss various types of nail art from marbling (messy, on such a small canvas) to leopard spots and more, often times only completing the look on one hand because it was rather difficult to do with our non-dominant hand. I spent hours pouring over blog articles (and yes, YouTube was a thing but I didn’t think to look there) and social media, finding new things to try and new brands to support. I spend a rather large amount of money (for a 10th grader that is) on indie nail brands on Etsy, Ebay, and even once in a limited drop that was so incredibly stressful that it pops up in my dreams every once in a while.
After a few months of this nail obsession I just… didn’t feel anything about it any more? I no longer cared, and honestly, I think of the time fondly but I literally have no interest in nail art any more. I paint my nails out of boredom more so now, but I am equally likely to peel it off in the same day. Alas, onto the next hyperfixation… and right now it’s Heated Rivalry hehe.
