Japan Travel Diaries: Day Six

By

Just a couple more days to go!

So this was another Ryan day. The tournament came to a close and he did well, but of course, it being Ryan, he wants to do even better (and make some $ back) next time. I’m proud either way.

Anyway…

It’s noodle time! Ryan and I made our way over to the Cup Noodle museum for a chicken ramen workshop. We learned all about making the famous instant ramen from start to finish, including two iconic packaging designs and incredible bandanas. From mixing the dough to sheeting the noodles and seeing them flash fried, we were hooked. Also, it tasted amazing dried? More on that later.

Nissin (the cup noodle/instant ramen ppl) have a multilevel situation going on at this museum, so we moved over to the next bit and started designing our very own Cup Noodle packaging. You craft a design of your choosing and then move to an assembly line where you choose ingredients (including a themed fish cake, which was so adorable that I needed to choose it) and watch it get sealed/packaged using their patented upside-down technique. I still have these on my bookshelf, but I feel like Ryan and I should eat them now…though that may be because I have not had breakfast yet.

Now for the fun part (it was all fun): The Noodle Bazaar. This was a very unique portion of the museum where you could order from several stands, each of which sold a noodle dish from a different part of the world. Also, and perhaps most importantly (though the Chinese spicy beef noodle dish still haunts me, I must have it again) there was an ice cream sundae with actual fried chicken ramen pieces on it. IT WAS SO FREAKING GOOD. I can not recommend the whole place enough, but if you go there, lmk because I want one of the special cup noodle cups.

After this, Ryan and I killed time exploring a theme park and trying to find a cherry blossom tree we saw in the middle of the road (we found a lovely garden instead), eventually ending up at a mall where I got the sugar coated strawberry /grape skewers that are everywhere, and we bought some chopsticks. Also we briefly visited a rooftop to view all of Yokohama, and then it was off to the Planetarium for space themed ice cream (!!!!).

Fun fact: there was an 18+ explicit adult show there when we went but, as it was only in Japanese, we did not attend. Or buy a ‘sex fortune’ which 😳

It was hilarious to think about though. Go off, planetarium peeps!

I myself have tasted the sweet nectar of authentic ramen noodles. It was during my own trip to Japan, shortly before a shark tried to attack me in the turbulent water. He may have blooded my leg, but he did not bloody my heart, and I slew him with my bare hands. It was a great trip all around. — Hawk of the Dusty Desert
