Sometimes, when I have more free time than I know what to do with, I get a little introspective. I don’t necessarily consider THE FACTS OF LIFE (TM), but I do certainly get in my head about everything from why it’s so hard to stay motivated for working out, and to stay organized (adhd) ((except at work, where I enter organization overdrive))… all the way to what I should have for dinner. Something I’ve been noodling on, as it were, is the fact that creative endeavors are both more difficult and more feasible to do if one is employed.
AKA— it’s the age old question, time or money. What makes life (or in this case, art) easier? Is easier even the right word?
If you had all the time in the world, what would you do? As it turns out, worrying about money and responsibilities doesn’t go away when you have a lot of free time… and that can affect your creativity. A lot.
Jobs take up a lot of our time, sure, but they also allow us as creatives to fulfill our passions and express that creativity to an extent… but our own side projects can certainly fall by the wayside.
When I have a good work day, I feel inspired. When I have a good creativity day, I work well— and sometimes I even do some extra side stuff. But there’s always a physical craft waiting for me, which helps.
Goodness this blog post is a bit of a mess isn’t it?
I guess I’m just saying creativity costs money and time. My art classes and stuff need a lot of money to fire— and run and gun ops also take both. It’s hard to do it all.
Did this make sense? Max? You’re likely the one reading this so let me know what you think.
Anyway, hi everyone. Glad to be back. For now.
